2 positions - Postdoc and Ocean Engineer at Lamont-Doherty (USA)

LDEO (http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/) is looking for:
1) Postdoctoral Research Scientist, to develop advanced computational models for coupled fluid/solid dynamics with applications to subduction zones.
2) Junior Ocean Engineer, to maintain and operate the fleet of broadband ocean-bottom seismometers, assist in the development of new instrumentation, and maintain and operate a remotely-operated vehicle (ROV).

Postdoctoral Research Scientist
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a full-time post-doctoral research scientist position in Computational Geodynamics. The successful applicant will work with Marc Spiegelman (LDEO/CU Applied Math) to develop advanced computational models for coupled fluid/solid dynamics with applications to subduction zones. These models will explore the behavior of reactive fluid flow in strongly deformable permeable media and be designed using advanced computational libraries. The successful candidate will join a large and growing group of Computational and Earth Scientists working on a wide range of dynamics problems related to complex plate boundaries. The initial project is in collaboration with the Peter van Keken at the University of Michigan. This position is located on the Lamont Campus in Rockland County, NY.

2) Junior Ocean Engineer
The Ocean-Bottom Seismology Laboratory of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University is presently seeking a Staff Associate / Ocean Engineer (Junior) to maintain and operate its fleet of broadband ocean-bottom seismometers, assist in the development of new instrumentation, and maintain and operate a remotely-operated vehicle (ROV). This position will require the application of creative scientific engineering approaches to the design and operational challenges of collecting earthquake data in the deep ocean.
